The National Customs seized, in three operations, 550 cell phones and several boxes with electronic accessories worth 207,500 bolivianos. The missions were carried out in the departments of La Paz and Oruro.

According to customs authorities, officials from the Strategic Operational Control Unit (UCOE) carried out a routine check at the Puente Español Customs Inspection Point, about 10 kilometers southwest of the city of Oruro. There they found a minibus that would have entered from Pisiga, on the border with Chile. Inside there were 470 cell phones with accessories.

The driver did not present the documentation that supports the entry of the merchandise into national territory. For this reason, the electronic equipment was seized.

Two other seizures were registered in the Guaqui PIA, in the department of La Paz. The reviewed vehicle was also a minibus for public use. 80 high-end cell phones were found and, in a third vehicle, three boxes of electronic accessories were discovered.

The equipment entered the country illegally. According to the authorities, the owners have no documentation or records. This, assures the Customs, harms consumers, since they acquire technology that has no guarantee of operation, nor who to turn to in case of a claim.

So far this year, Customs has seized merchandise valued at more than 94.6 million Bolivians throughout the country. There were 1,423 control operations. Among the most recurrent goods are vehicles (58.8 million Bolivians) and electrical materials (7.3 million).
