The cigarettes, allegedly contraband, were hidden inside a truck that transported silk and hardware goods bound for the province of Chiriquí
A total of 33 bales of cigarettes with a CIF value (cost, insurance and freight) of B/.24,700 dollars and the apprehension of six Panamanian citizens, was the result of a retention carried out by the inspectors of the Directorate of Prevention and Customs Control (DPFA) in the province of Panamá Oeste.
According to Tomás Espinosa, Director of Prevention and Customs Enforcement (DPFA), the cigarettes, allegedly contraband, were detected hidden inside a truck that was transporting silk and hardware merchandise bound for the province of Chiriquí. A private vehicle occupied by people involved in this transfer and who are repeat offenders in investigations for smuggling cases carried out by Customs was also located at the site.
Espinosa explained that both the truck, the private vehicle and all the merchandise were transferred to the Customs headquarters located in Curundú, to start the corresponding procedure. In this event, he had the support of members of the National Police.
