A total of 140 kilos of drugs were intercepted in a peñero-type vessel named El Viajero, 4.5 nautical miles from the coast of Sucre state, on the border of Anzoátegui.
The information was released by the commander of the Comprehensive Maritime and Insular Eastern Defense Operational Zone (Zodimainor), V/A Freddy Alberto Segovia Carvallo, who explained that officials attached to the service against narcotics and psychotropic substances of the Bolivarian National Police Corps (PNB) of the Anzoátegui Coordination Center, who carried out the procedure at 7 pm this Monday in the La Esmeralda sector.
From the PNB headquarters in Barcelona, Segovia Carvallo explained that the fiberglass boat, with a 40 HP outboard motor, had five crew members who were arrested in flagrante delicto for transporting the 150 wrappers or panelas of what is allegedly involved. of the drug cannabis sativa, popularly known as marijuana.
He also explained that the boat was intercepted on the high seas after an investigation and intelligence work that is ongoing to determine the origin and destination of the drug that was seized.
The head of the Zodimainor added that the officials also seized elements of criminal interest that will allow further investigations to dismantle criminal organizations dedicated to maritime trafficking.
He also pointed out that it is presumed that the substance would be transferred to other vessels for other destinations, so the investigations continue within the framework of the collaboration between the National Armed Forces, the police and state investigation bodies.
“The investigation process that will lead to continue the arrest process continues,” said Segovia Carvallo.
Within the framework of the operation, he recalled that last year 2.2 tons of drugs were seized in the eastern maritime and insular area, and this procedure is the first this year.
