A total of 1,215 cubic meters of wood (cedar) were seized from a property located in the vicinity of the natural monument “Morros de Macaira” in the municipality of José Tadeo Monagas in the state of Guárico, reported the Ministry of People’s Power for Ecosocialism in the region. (Minec).
Through its social networks, the agency indicated that the procedure was carried out by a mixed commission made up of officials from the 5th Company of the Bolivarian National Guard (GNB), members of the National Institute of Parks (Inparques) and representatives of Minec attached to the UTEC Guárico.
The confiscation was registered after the administrative area of the Guatopo National Park issued an inspection request in said property, where they evidenced the felling of several trees of the “cedro” species that had been cut into different planks.
Marcos de Córdova, regional director of Minec, indicated that the owner of the land responds to the name of Marisol Pacheco, who was not in the place when the agencies went to it, nor does she have the necessary environmental permits for that purpose.
He also specified that the procedure obeys the National Plan for Fiscalization and Control of Environmental Impacts, instructed by the Minister for Ecosocialism, Josué Lorca.
De Córdova recalled that, due to its prohibition, the felling of this species of tree carries criminal sanctions for those who commit this crime.
