More than 92,500 hectares of rice have been planted for the 2021-2022 agricultural year, reported the National Directorate of Agriculture of the Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA).
According to a report issued by the entity, this production translates into a harvest projection of 9 million 427 thousand 268.6 quintals of rice.
This seeks to guarantee food production and the rice harvest for next year, said the MIDA minister, Augusto Valderrama, highlighting the importance of this in such difficult times that due to the crisis of the war in Eastern Europe, rises have been recorded in the costs of fuel, fertilizers and materials.
Valderrama said that he held a meeting with representatives of different producer associations from all over the country, which lasted more than 10 hours, in which the international market perspectives in terms of production costs were analyzed.
He highlighted the commitment of the producers to increase the production of this grain, where he indicated that there are currently 15,000 more hectares planted with rice and that more is being produced every day, which is the result of having stopped imports and that with the support of these farmers, security is transmitted.
