Los Cabos, BCS., Governors and officials from the five states bordering the Gulf of California will meet today with representatives of the private initiative and civil society, environmental specialists, to generate alternatives for sustainable development in this region, the main fish producer from Mexico.
In the second edition of the Mar de Cortés Forum, three development projects will be announced.
According to the organizers of the meeting, the objective is to contribute to the reduction of the carbon footprint and the fulfillment of the goals of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
With the name Misión Prosperidad, they will address different issues that concern Baja California, Baja California Sur, Nayarit, Sinaloa and Sonora, suppliers of 77 percent of the regional fishing – concentrated in the Pacific Ocean – and 80 percent of the Gulf of California, whose length is one thousand 126 kilometers.
The participation of the leaders of the five entities involved is expected – for the first time with governors emanating from a single political party (Morena) –, or that they send representatives.
Sergio Radamés Díaz Meza, executive president of Foro Mar de Cortés, said that this space for the exchange of ideas and initiatives focused on the preservation of the area aims to contribute to the generation of responses on how companies, government, civil society, communities and academia can develop an agenda that promotes the local social and economic environment without affecting the environment.
The three projects that will be presented during the two days of this meeting are:
Mar de Cortés Region Carbon Neutral Goal 2030, related to a social-corporate strategy, through digital and innovative solutions
to develop the economic region of the Sea of Cortez.
SDG Action Manager Tool. This alternative was developed by B Lab, from Sistema B, and the United Nations Global Compact, focused on business administration with a focus on sustainability.
The third project is the Center for Monitoring Prosperity in the Sea of Cortez, in order to measure the state of this region, particularly for the conservation of natural resources.
The purpose is that all the actors involved are guardians of the ecological and economic balance of the area, which will be the central axis to reorganize, promote and create economies that are regenerative and distributive in order to guarantee that there are no conditions of social inequality or deficiencies of means
Diaz Meza added.
