In order to establish the exact places where the piracy activity is recorded, the Land Transit and Transportation Authority (ATTT), together with the National Traffic Operations Directorate (DNOT) meet -in two sessions- with members of the National Chamber of Transport (Canatra) and the Interior Transport Council (Cotradin).
ATTT Director Carlos Ordóñez explained that surprise operations will be coordinated and both drivers and vehicle owners who are dedicated to providing the service without having the proper operating certificate will be sanctioned.
He stressed that the most important thing is to restore order in the transport service for the benefit of users. “It is no longer just about unfair competition that impacts the economy of carriers fully empowered to provide the service, users are also affected by not having an adequate policy to cover medical expenses in case of accidents,” he explained. For his part, the president of Cotradin, Nestor Cubilla, stated that the provinces of Coclé, Veraguas and Darién are the most affected by piracy, especially during peak hours and in places such as supermarkets, schools, pharmacies and hospitals.
Francisco Córdoba, a member of Canatra, said that the meeting left very positive results and that the transport sector is pleased with the plan presented by the ATTT and DNOT to put an end to piracy, he stressed the need to continue improving the transport service and that The owners of entrances must take the corresponding road safety talks and then instruct the bases, for the benefit of the users.
