The tragedy occurred when they were submerged in the waters of the Monción dam, after a yola turned over, with four more people on board.
One version states that two people of Haitian nationality and two Dominicans who managed to survive the tragedy were on the boat.
Santos Rodríguez, director of Civil Defense in that demarcation, reported that the authorities were forced to suspend the search for the victims on Saturday, due to the time and depth of the dam.
Rodríguez also said that the place where the event took place is difficult to access, so in the early hours of this Sunday they will restart the search using a boat and a drone if necessary.
Supposedly, the undocumented were transported illegally by two Dominicans who are fugitives. The group allegedly used the boat to evade military surveillance.
