They rescue two children who were chained inside their house in Bogotá

The authorities revealed that the minors spent up to four days chained and without food.

The Bogotá Metropolitan Police rescued two minors, ages 12 and 15, who were chained hand and foot inside his home in the south of the country’s capital.

According to the authorities, the children spent up to four days locked inside the house while the mother went to work in the municipality of Chía (Cundinamarca).

“Thanks to the community’s complaint, they informed us that two minors were inside the house for several days. The community showed solidarity with this case, they passed food through a window of the residence, since days went by without food,” said Colonel Bibiana Valencia, Head of the Community Police Group.

The officer pointed out that the mother of the minors could lose custody of her children. “With the Fire Department, who, through specialized tools, manage to break the chains on the doors and on the minors who were tied. They are immediately transferred to a health center to be evaluated and subsequently left in the custody of the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare,” he explained.

“The mother of the minors begins an administrative process in which she could lose her children and those who left them locked up while she went to work. Unfortunately, so far this year, the Bogotá Metropolitan Police has rescued 195 minors who have been abandoned,” he indicated.

On the other hand, the Ombudsman’s Office reported that 297 minors were recruited in Colombia during the first months of 2024, showing a serious violationto the rights of children and adolescents,

The entity explained that 105 of these minors were recruited by armed groups, which represents 35% of the cases reported so far.
