(EFE).- A group of between 200 and 250 Haitian migrants who were stranded north of Caibarién, a municipality in the Villa Clara province, in central Cuba, were rescued this Tuesday by authorities of the Caribbean country, state media reported.

The members of the new group of Haitians who have landed in Cuba will receive humanitarian attention and will be placed in a temporary center while the immigration procedures progress, the official Cubadebate website said.

On May 24, a boat with 842 people from Haiti and whose objective was to reach US territory, also landed on the shores of Caibarién.

This large group of Haitian emigrants was repatriated to Haiti on six flights departing from the Abel Santamaría International Airport in Villa Clara.

The closest point between the United States and Haiti is 950 kilometers away.

According to official data, from 2001 to 2021, a total of 76 boats with more than 4,000 immigrants arrived in the Cuban province of Guantánamo (east) alone.
