He Public Ministry requested this Friday preventive detention against Alexander Jimenez Galvanalias Alex, whom he accuses of attempted murder and illegal possession of a firearm, due to the violent event that occurred last Thursday at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), which left two injured.
Jimenez Galvan35 years old, is accused of shoot against three members of security from the state university, wounding two of them, one seriously.
The victims were identified as Juan Manuel Mendez and Lyedgers Tameydshi Encarnación Peña. The third, Miguel Ángel Claudio Chacónwas unharmed.
The Public Ministry reported that the accused appeared at a gray Mazda vehicle in front of the Claudio Chacón’s officemember of security personnel from the university.
“After a initial altercationHE removed from the placebut was intercepted minutes later by several UASD employees in the vicinity of the university commissary“, explained the entity in a press release.
During the confrontation, the accused allegedly made threats and shot with a 12 gauge shotgunhitting Méndez in the left forearm, and Encarnación Peña, who suffered “thoraco-abdominal injuries, hypovolemic shock secondary to internal bleeding, right hemothorax, pneumoperitoneum and post-cardiac arrest syndrome,” according to the legal medical certificate.
He fled after the attack
After the attack, the accused fled in his vehicle to the doors number 2 from the university, where abandoned the weapon and the automobile.
“Climbed a wall and moved towards the vicinity of a nearby supermarket, where he was detained by students and later handed over to members of university security and the National Police,” the Public Ministry stated.
The aggressor’s weapon
The shotgun used, Kral Magnum brand, was seized by the authorities. He weaponallegedly carried illegally, is part of the evidence of the casealong with testimonies, the arrest record and medical certifications.
According to the Public Ministrythe event originated in a previous conflict occurred on October 15when the accused reacted violently to a call for attention from members of the security.
The articles
The judicial instance accuses Jiménez Galván of violating the articles 2, 295 and 304 of the Dominican Penal Code (attempted murder), as well as articles 66 and 67 of the Law 631-16 about firearms.
