The Texas Nicaraguan Community (TNC) organization requests help to transfer to Nicaragua the young man, 28, Juan Antonio Sobalvarro who was found on a highway in Mexico, disoriented and “in deplorable conditions of destitution” after being brutally beaten by unknown.
The citizen, originally from El Cuá, Jinotega; He is in a shelter located in the city of Veracruz, Mexico, after the people who work for the shelter took pity on his situation and helped him. They affirm that Sobalvarro “lived in the dumpsters on the streets, ate garbage and was walking aimlessly on the side of the road.”

«Sobalvarro said that his mother’s name is María Sobalvarro and that they come from El Cuá, Jinotega. One of the Rocío Zarate volunteers contacted the officials of the Texas Nicaraguan Community to help him contact the young man’s family and proceed with his repatriation, “says the organization of Nicaraguans in the United States.
They affirm that they managed to contact their relatives who are of limited resources, so they cannot afford their return. “For this reason, we need the valuable support of all of you to cover the costs of repatriation from Mexico to Nicaragua. The aid consists of transferring him from Veracruz to Nicaragua by land accompanied by a guide because the young man is in a state of extreme disorientation and is not in a position to travel alone, ”reports the TNC.
In addition, they assure that they have already carried out all the corresponding steps and immigration procedures so that Sobalvarro could obtain a Nicaraguan safe-conduct to make his trip possible. “We are also in constant communication with the shelter volunteers who are informing us of the health of our compatriot. Support is urgent because the safe-conduct issued is temporary and has an expiration date of September 12, 2022, ”refers the organization.

Mexico has become a bridge for hundreds of Nicaraguans trying to cross into the United States. According to statistical data from the United States Customs and Border Protection Office (CBP), arrests per month exceed ten thousand cases, reaching the highest peak in May with 19,087 arrests. This behavior is far from what was reported in the same period of 2021, when less than ten thousand were registered in the first seven months, with the exception of July, which accounted for 13,509.
But the figure of 96,193 Nicaraguans who managed to reach the United States irregularly may be even higher if one takes into account those who enter regularly and those who do not manage to reach their destination due to different circumstances. The socio-political and economic crisis in the country has exacerbated the migratory wave since last year, a situation that has left a considerable number of deaths of Nicaraguans who try to arrive through risk areas.
