They request an interpellation from the Director of Prisons

The spokesman for the block of senators of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), Yvan Lawrence, submitted this Wednesday before that legislative body a resolution requesting the interpellation of the Director General of Prisons, Robert Hernandez Basilafter the complaint that in the La Victoria Penitentiary There is an alleged network of corruption that charges about seven million pesos a week.

According to the resolution read by Senator Elías Piña, the official is expected to appear before the plenary session of the Senate and that in this way they can exchange opinions regarding the cost to the Dominican State of the stoppage of works related to the penitentiary, including the humanization plan, whose contracts have been ratified by the current management.

Also, to explain the progress of the Rehabilitation Centers of San Juan de la Maguana, Barahona, Haras Nacionales, Elías Pina, San Francisco de Macorís, San Pedro de Macorís, among others.

This Tuesday, the honorary adviser to the Executive Branch on citizen security policies and the prison system, Robert Santana, He denounced that the supposed money comes from drug trafficking and from the payment of “tolls” by the owners of grocery stores and the families of the prisoners who stand in line.
