They report worrying progress in the execution of infrastructure works in Catatumbo

71% of the contracts assigned by the National Highway Institute (Invías) to the Community Action Boards have 0% execution. This was denounced by the councilor of Bogotá, Daniel Briceño, of the Democratic Center Party, who revealed that this inaction puts at risk more than $5,000 million destined for the improvement of tertiary roads in the area.

According to the lobbyist, of the 36 contracts awarded, only 10 have advanced. The most affected municipalities include:

● Tibú: where 5 of 6 contracts have no progress and the remaining one is suspended.

● Convention: 5 of 7 contracts suspended.

● El Tarra: 6 of 7 contracts suspended.

In the case of the municipality of Tibú, The auditor of the works has recognized that the projects are suspended due to the security conditions of the municipality.

Councilor Briceño expressed his concern about the disconnection between the National Government’s announcements and the reality in the territory:

“It is unacceptable that while the Government announces million-dollar investments, in Catatumbo the works are paralyzed and resources are at risk. “This situation reflects a lack of real commitment to the communities most in need”Briceño said.
