The presidential delegate of the Biobío region, Daniela Dresdner, delivered a new balance on the forest fires that affect the area. In this sense, she reported that there are 16 incidents in combat, 14 controlled and seven new outbreaks.
As reported by the regional authority after a new meeting of the Disaster Risk Management Committee (Cogrid), of the new incidents, “four became considerable fires.”
In this regard, he commented that “we are having concern, we know that the climatic conditions of high temperatures can generate a greater number of outbreaks due to negligence or accident. However, we have also talked about the patrols that may have to do with intentionality.”
He also explained that last Saturday night two preventive evacuations were carried out in the towns of La Quebrada and Quetra, because although “the fire has not affected homes in those sectors, there were preventive evacuations due to what could happen.”
He added that the situation is worrisome because “yesterday a new fire broke out in the Hualqui commune, which is a fire that has already affected 200 hectares, close to the Quince sector, that is a fire that is also worrying us.”
On the other hand, he declared that during the night of Saturday, in Coronel, Portuguese brigades were hired “in conjunction with the brigades and the machinery work of the companies to generate protection for the city in case the wind changed its direction.”
Regarding the air conditions, the delegate recommended the use of a mask for “people who have respiratory conditions and do not do outdoor sports activities”, since “air quality has worsened”.
“We have smoke conditions that are worrisome and that can lead to dangerous health conditions,” Dresdner concluded.
