Habitat for Humanity Paraguay presented the results of the collection phase of the 9th. edition of the Health to Water campaign. With the goal achieved and a total collection of G. 1,597,678,525, 133 families from Luque are being supported in the construction of sanitary infrastructures, and the improvement of their conditions and hygiene.
In October 2022, Habitat for Humanity started a new campaign of adequate sanitation for settlements and called on allies to support it. In January of this year, the construction phase began, financed by donations obtained.
Total, 133 families from three settlements in Luque (Alianza Unida, San Cayetano and 24 de Octubre) they will have the opportunity to transform their bathrooms and improve their sanitation and hygiene conditions and healthy habits. These families were selected jointly with the community, prioritizing those with female heads of household with boys and girls and older people whose bathrooms had serious deficiencies, such as the lack of basic facilities and connections, floors, doors or windows, as well as necessary equipment and artifacts.
The help given to these families includes the provision of tiles, the placement of floors, the installation of ceramic equipment, taps and electricity, and in some cases the construction of biodigesters to avoid environmental contamination. One of the cases is that of Mrs. Mariela Leiva Amarilla and family, from the Alianza Unida community, who told us that it is the first time that they have a modern bathroom. He expressed his satisfaction about it: “For us, especially for those of us who are low-income single mothers, this is a great help. Toilets are essential and it was impossible for me to build one before. I am very grateful to all these people who are giving us their support”.
As of January 2023, the construction phase of the Health to Water campaign is underway. The construction is being carried out by groups of families, volunteers, and so far improvements have been made in 60 United Alliance households. Work began on San Cayetano a few weeks ago, and the work schedule will run through August.
