The Hospital de Clínicas reported an unusual or early outbreak of Gastroenteritis in adults, according to records of consultations given in said service.
Prof. Dr. Héctor Ratti, Head of the First Medical Clinic Chair, explained that outbreaks of gastroenteritis in adults usually coincide with the summer season, where the increase in temperature and the conditions of food storage, handling and exposure are factors that can lead to gastrointestinal cases.
He added that these cases occur in adults and children, and are generally not explosive in contagion, but more specific in patients with symptoms associated with environmental conditions or viral conditions.
Symptoms
– When vomiting does not stop, and the patient continues to expel only liquid, it can cause dizziness, weakness, abdominal pain, among other symptoms, it should be taken into account to go to a health professional since it is necessary to avoid dehydration or other imbalances of electrolytes.
– As for very frequent diarrhea, it is an alarm signal, especially when the patient notices intense abdominal pain that must be differentiated from other causes or surgical conditions, in order to indicate the appropriate treatment.
“Hydration must be progressive for the patient according to tolerance, eat a light diet, rest and if that does not calm you, you have to go to a health center where the patient will be examined. Frequent hand washing is essential for the rest of the family, hygiene of the stools that were expelled from the body to avoid dispersion within the house if it is something contagious, control the quality of water and food conservation. ”, the doctor stated.
It is worth mentioning that a patient who wants to consult with a medical clinician must make an appointment through the call center in an external office or, if the urgency warrants it, go to the Emergency area of the Hospital de Clínicas.
