Violence against women in Nicaragua continues to increase. On the afternoon of December 18, the murder of Reina Elizabeth Torres Hernández, 36, was reported in Chinandega. She was found nearly decapitated in the living room of the house she rented.
The main suspect in the crime is his ex-partner Santos Díaz, 33, originally from Masaya, a bricklayer who worked in construction in the Los Farallones sector, and whom he had met at the end of 2021.

The event occurred after 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, at Torres’ house, located in the Daniel Ortega neighborhood, sector of the old cotton gin in Chinandega. Several wounds were reflected on Reina’s neck. The woman’s neighbors found her body and notified the police. According to residents of the area, the subject would have committed the crime in front of the victim’s children.
The bricklayer Santos Díaz is the suspect because she had decided to end the relationship 15 days ago, but he, according to reports, was chasing her, harassing her and had already entered the victim’s house through the roof twice.
The residents of the neighborhood affirm that minutes before she was found dead, Santos Díaz had been seen hanging around the place.
The Chinandega police investigate the crime, classified as femicide. “The Police detained Luis Fernando, 32, to investigate him. He has been her husband for 9 years and had returned to her, so she had told Santos to understand that she no longer wanted anything with him, “said a friend of Reina Elizabeth Torres.

According to the statements of Luis Fernando Esquivel Parrales, Reina’s husband, at that time he was helping her move the belongings to another house because he was moving house.
“When I moved the chairs, it took me only 15 minutes and when I returned she was lying on the ground with her neck wounds and blood,” Luis Fernando commented before being arrested. Queen Elizabeth, mother of three children, two boys and a 16-year-old teenager, worked as a domestic in Los Angeles.
Another deceased in Chinandega
In Chinandega, another tragedy was also recorded when five young people were swept away by a wave in the dark and deadly resort of Paso Caballos, in Chinandega, on Sunday afternoon. One of them could not get out and disappeared into the water. This is the 22-year-old Fernando Maradiaga Real.
The young man, originally from the La Florida neighborhood, had gone to the spa with his friends to celebrate the final of the Qatar 2022 World Cup between Argentina and France. They traveled at one in the afternoon to the Paso Caballos spa. Minutes later tragedy occurred.
