Doctors from the Alberto Hurtado Abadía de EsSalud hospital in La Oroya managed to save the life of a 47-year-old woman, after removing seven uterine fibroids that together weighed more than 2 kilos.

The delicate surgery was carried out by gynecologists Zolania Chachi Vicuña and Kevin Calderón Yurivilca, who removed the tumors without having to remove the uterus, allowing the patient to preserve her reproductive organ.
According to Dr. Chachi, the woman had been suffering for more than two years from intense abdominal pain and constant bleeding that seriously affected her quality of life. After the intervention, the patient is stable and recovering in the intensive care unit.

The director of the hospital, Dr. Aurelio Córdova, highlighted that this type of operations previously had to be referred to Huancayo or Lima, but today they can be performed in La Oroya thanks to the specialized personnel and medical equipment available, reaffirming the hospital’s commitment to the health of the insured.
