The Chamber of Deputies turned into law the project that changes the name of Circunvalación Juan Bosch avenue to Circunvalación José Francisco Peña Gómez, one of its last decisions in the current legislature that ends next Sunday at midnight. The project had already been approved in the Senate and is now only pending promulgation by the Executive Branch.
Since its inauguration by President Danilo Medina on February 23, 2015, Circunvalación Santo Domingo avenue was named Circunvalación Juan Bosch and that first section is 26.3 kilometers long.
Later, in July of that same year, Medina inaugurated a second section of the road, 16 kilometers long and running from the Duarte highway to Punta de Villa Mellawhich is added to the first section that begins in Haina.
On Wednesday, July 15, 2020, President Medina inaugurated section 2B of the aforementioned road, which will directly connect the Duarte, Sánchez and Las Américas Highways.
The project approved in two consecutive sessions yesterday, began in the Senate, was presented by the senator of the Hato Mayor province, Cristóbal Venerado Antonio Castillo Liriano, on March 19, 2024. It was approved in the Upper House on April 16 of the year past.
In the decision of the deputies there is no section that the Santo Domingo Beltway bear the name of Juan Bosch.
The Chamber of Deputies names the Santo Domingo Ring Road after Dr. José Francisco Pena Gómez, from its beginning, on the Sánchez Highway, to the Juan Pablo II Northeast Highway.
The project It became a Law after being previously approved in the Senate of the Republic, Therefore, the only thing missing is its promulgation by the Executive Branch.
Pacheco speaks
Prior to its approval, the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Alfredo Pacheco, highlighted the fact that the aforementioned highway impacts, mainly, the demarcations of the province of Santo Domingo and San Cristóbal, where Peña Gómez was mayor in the case of the first. and adopted son in the case of the second. “Everyone knows that Dr. José Francisco Peña Gómez was a person who dedicated himself body and soul to the Dominican Republic,” said Pacheco.
“This section has a length of 20.20 km, with two lanes 3.60 m wide in both directions, 6 bridges, 6 distributors, 4 vehicular underpasses, 3 pedestrian/motor underpasses, and 1 toll station,” the authorities indicated. .
Other avenue name changes
In their last session of this legislature they renamed Avenida de la Salud or Paseo de los Indios, with the name Avenida Freddy Beras Goico.
In the case of the late comedian Beras Goico, now two avenues in Greater Santo Domingo will bear his name, since on December 23, 2023, President Luis Abinader inaugurated the expansion of Hípica Avenue, which was subsequently renamed that of Freddy Beras Goico, in the Santo Domingo Este municipality.
The Avenida de la Salud or Mirador Sur, the main road of the park of the same name in the National District area, was named by the capital’s mayor’s office, which organized the schedules for pedestrian, sports and vehicle walks.
It was the favorite place where the late former president Joaquín Balaguer took his walks, which made it the center of attraction for the media, passers-by and political leaders.

The RD Vial Trust contract, created on October 18, 2013, which is responsible for the proper functioning of said avenue, officially contemplates it as the Juan Bosch Beltway in its three sections.
