
Prison authorities This Wednesday, December 25, 71 political prisoners were released detained in the context of the protests registered after the 2024 elections, according to the Committee of Mothers in Defense of the Truth. The releases took place since early Christmas morning in different detention centers in the country.
According to the balance released by the group, a total of 65 men They were released from the Tocorón penitentiary center, located in the state of Aragua. Likewise, the release of three women held in the Las Crisálidas center, in Miranda. And also of three teenagers who remained detained in facilities in the state of La Guaira.
The Committee described these releases as a partial advance within a broader situation that affects hundreds of people detained after the post-election protests. In that sense, he recalled that human rights organizations, such as Foro Penal, have classified many of these citizens as political prisoners.

Through a statement, the mothers indicated that the news represents a reason for hope for numerous families who have reported arbitrary detentions in the last year. However, they stressed that the number of those released is insufficient compared to the magnitude of the problem.
“It is an important achievement, but insufficient, which is why we demand full freedom for all through a General Amnesty“they added.
The group attributed these releases to sustained pressure from family members, civil organizations and the solidarity of citizens. As well as the support of the international community.
In the text, they thanked human rights defenders for their support and reiterated the call not to abandon the cause. “Your support has been essential to keep us standing during the hardest times. Please do not leave us alone. Injustice continues to affect hundreds of families throughout the country“, they pointed out.
The message was spread on social networks under the hashtag #ChristmasWithOurs, as a symbol of the demand for family reunification during the holiday season.
For their part, organizations such as the Venezuelan Prison Observatory and Foro Penal have documented similar releases throughout 2025 in centers such as Tocorón and other prison facilities in the country. However, they warn that complaints persist about precarious prison conditions and new arrests linked to the political context after the 2024 elections.
