They release Ángel Cuza, the activist who broadcast the explosion in the Saratoga live

Policía política detiene a Ángel Cuza, el activista que transmitió la explosión en el Saratoga

MIAMI, United States. — The Cuban activist Ángel Cuza, who broadcast the explosion at the Saratoga hotel on May 6, was released this Tuesday after spending almost four days detained.

The news was confirmed to CubaNet by Cuza himself, who assured that he was released under a precautionary measure of house arrest.

After being arrested last Friday, the activist was taken to Villa Marista, the Cuban State Security headquarters.

“After the explosion I was at Pedro’s house (Quiala) waiting for calls from the channels (foreign television) and they arrested me there,” explained the young man shortly after being released.

The young man says he has been charged with the alleged crime of sedition. According to the officers who attended him, Cuza’s words during a live broadcast were described as an insult to the Cuban State. The agents, however, specified that it was not the Saratoga transmission, but a previous one.

“They say no, that it is not because of that, that it is because of a previous one that I did that same day, but on Friday I did not do any more. So I don’t know what they were talking about,” the activist said.

“Angel Cuza did not commit any crime”

The Cuban opponent Peter Quiala had declared this Tuesday to CubaNet that the regime had no reason to keep Ángel Cuza detained.

“Nothing was violated there, no crime was committed, we were even heading to another place and when we got there (around the Saratoga hotel) we tried to give first aid to the people we could see on the outskirts,” Quiala said.

Ángel Cuza had already been arrested in the past April 27 and transferred to the same Villa Marista prison the following day. On that occasion, State Security (SE) denied information to his family about the alleged crimes he was accused of and the criminal proceedings opened against him.
