They reject Rafael López Aliaga in Arequipa: the population shouts at him "corrupt porky"

Rafael López Aliaga was rejected in Arequipa, a region where he arrived to hold a rally as part of his presidential campaign with Renovación Popular.

“Corrupt porky” and “get out of Arequipa” were some of the phrases that citizens exclaimed at the entrance of the Fénix Theater where the rally was held.

Part of the opposition was due to the little support that López Aliaga has provided to the victims of the 2022-2023 social demonstrations. “He has come to Arequipa to offend the dignity of the people of Arequipa. This character who owes the Peruvian State millions of soles. This character who calls those who fight for justice terrorists,” one of the locals is heard replying.

The candidate did not ignore this rejection and made reference to it in his speech. “Today they wanted to put or will put in networks that they threw at Renovación de Arequipa, a little picket from a little political party that is burning and I won’t say the name, but I don’t like orange juice anymore,” he said.

The latter because some of the harangues were clearly directed at Fujimorism.

In turn, López Aliaga ranted against some of the other presidential candidates. “We have had a corrupt government and today the brother of the convicted person is applying; I cannot understand this, and so is another fugitive (Vladimir Cerrón), that is, we have one plan with a fugitive and another with a convicted person,” he said.

RLA and the promises it made in Arequipa

Regarding campaign promises, the leader of the celestial party assured that he would solve the water and drainage problem in the most isolated sectors.

“(Sedapar) uses the excuse that, since they do not have zoning, then they do not have the right to water, or electricity, or drainage, or anything; enough is enough, we are going to provide emergency water, that is the immediate thing. The medium and long-term solution is zoning; we have to turn around this cursed legal framework that condemns people to living in an inhumane manner,” he indicated.

He also referred to the mining sector, one of the strongest industries in Arequipa.

He proposed: “Yes, we can tell the mining company, for example, that works here in Arequipa, to pay us half of the tax, to go directly to the MEF, but the other half to go to the area of influence.”

On the other hand, at the beginning of his speech he announced the publication of a new book, which is titled “The Christian Right” and will be presented on February 15.

ID for unborn

Another of the proposals of the former mayor of Lima is to deliver the National Identity Document (DNI) to babies who are in the gestation stage in their mother’s womb, as part of his actions that he will carry out if he manages to win the electoral elections.

“Let’s go to what worries me most: the children. From their mother’s womb they are citizens. DNI for the child from their mother’s womb. Right, right of the unborn child,” he said.

However, during a rally in Arequipa, the former mayor of Lima, who resigned from office to run in the 2026 elections, did not detail the legal mechanism that he will use to carry out his proposal, in which the State legally recognizes the person conceived from pregnancy before the National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (Reniec).

“We are going to fight that law. And not only that, not only that, we are going to reduce the State,” he said without providing the details of the case while carrying out his presidential campaign.

It is important to mention that, although the Political Constitution states that the State especially protects the child, Law 29462 establishes that the DNI is given to the baby after birth.

Presidential Polls 2026: López Aliaga leads voting intentions while 44.5% have not yet decided

A little less than three months before the 2026 presidential elections, voting intention remains highly fragmented. According to the most recent survey by the Institute of Peruvian Studies (IEP), Rafael López Aliaga (Renovación Popular) leads the preferences with just 14.7%.

Then, without statistically significant differences between them, they appear Mario Vizcarra (4.4%), Carlos Alvarez (4.0%), Alfonso López Chau (4.0%), Yohny Lescano (3.2%) and Ricardo Belmont (2.4%). Below are located George Forsyth (1.9%), Cesar Acuna (1.4%), Carlos Espá (1.4%) and Marisol Pérez Tello (1.1%).
