The Civil Aeronautical Authority of Panama reported this Tuesday that, after 690 hours of aerial and maritime search, in the Punta Chame, managed to recover the bodies of the two passengers who were missing after the plane crash recorded on January 3.
“The SAR search and rescue team and the joint task force recovered 2 missing bodies in the accident recorded on January 3 in Punta Chame after more than 690 hours of searching. The Public Ministry carried out the removal of the bodies,” he explained. Civil Aeronautics in a statement.
The entity pointed out that the search block that participated in the operation for 29 days was made up of the Joint Search and Rescue Task Force of the Civil Aviation Authority (AAC), the National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc), the National Service Aeronaval (Senan), Panamanian Red Cross, the Meritorious Fire Department of Panama, Panama Maritime Authority and the Panama Canal Authority, resulting in the participation of 200 employees and volunteers.
4×4 vehicles, four Senan aircraft, eight boats, bathymetry equipment and fishing and private boats made available by family members were used in the operation. And there was the collaboration of the NGO “Bruce’s Legacy”, a volunteer organization that provides assistance in emergencies and specialized in search and rescue of drowning victims, where specialized equipment was used for this type of event.
It should be noted that on January 3, after the accident occurred, three of the five passengers were rescued that same day by units of the National Aeronaval Service (Senan) and received medical attention.
That day the Cherokee plane had a flight plan from Isla Contadora to Chame and the pilot reported mechanical failure.
