Eleven vehicles linked to an investigation related to the crime against public faith, in the form of forgery of documents, were recovered by the West Panama Regional Prosecutor’s Office in conjunction with the National Police through the operation “West Car”.
According to the prosecutor Gustavo Barragán, the vehicles were located circulating on public roads in the district of Arraiján and La Chorrera, with identities that do not correspond to them and have been sold clandestinely to third party buyers in good faith.
He announced that the Public Ministry began an investigation to determine the way and place where these vehicle documents were cloned and it is being investigated to which authority they were illegally presented for their circulation.
Barragán explained that at the moment there are no people apprehended; however, it is investigated how the sale of these vehicles is promoted and the use of social networks for this purpose is not ruled out.
“It is important to recommend to the community that when buying a second-hand vehicle, verify that the documents have the correct information on the chassis number and the engine of the car for sale. If there is any doubt, they can be supported by suitable people or with the staff of the Judicial Investigation Directorate,” added Barragán.
For her part, Prosecutor Patricia Herrera, of the La Chorrera Primary Care Section, also indicated that during a search proceeding carried out in this district, six vehicle computers were located in a workshop.
“We are carrying out the procedures to determine their identity, due to the increase in the theft of vehicle accessories, among these computers,” said Herrera.
