The use of technology and artificial intelligence could help justice systems deal with work overload in various areas of prosecution and administration of justice in the country, says a study by the Belisario Domínguez Institute (IBD) of the Senate of the Republic.

Researchers Juan Manuel Rodríguez and Miguel Ángel Barrón maintain that sufficient incentives need to be generated to support digital justice, for which the Chamber of Deputies must allocate a larger budget, as well as approve legislative reforms on the matter.

In the research titled Artificial Intelligence and its application in justice systems in Latin Americaprepared by Rodríguez and Barrón, analyzes the cases of Argentina and Colombia, which have recently stood out for implementing artificial intelligence systems in their judicial procedures, which have allowed greater efficiency and that prosecutors can spend more time investigating and analyzing with greater depth more complex cases, among other advantages.

It is highlighted in the analysis that in Mexico there are digital databases with relevant legal information that could potentially simplify the implementation of Artificial Intelligence systems in justice systems, such as the IUS online consultation system of the Judicial Weekly of the Federation. and the online repositories of the Chamber of Deputies and the Ministry of the Interior.

In March 2021, it is detailed, the Senate of the Republic approved a constitutional reform that orders the implementation of the use of information and communication technologies in the Judiciary, in order to guarantee access to justice in a agile, timely and inclusive.

In this regard, last Friday, the first Artificial Intelligence Forum applied to the administration of justice was held in the Senate, organized by the IBD and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in which various specialists agreed to take advantage of technology to modernize systems of Justice.
