A large amount of cash, cell phones and computers were found during the raids carried out this Sunday at two properties owned by Panamanian Jorge Rubén Camargo Clarke, 42, known by the alias Cholo Chorrillo.
The actions were carried out by the Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ) and the Prosecutor’s Office of Costa Rica, the country where Camargo Clarke was arrested, this past Friday, February 11. Cholo Chorrillo, one of the alleged leaders of the Bagdad gang, was with his wife that day. In Panama he is required for the alleged commission of the crimes of drug trafficking and money laundering, among others.
As a result of the investigations, the authorities carried out these raids this weekend. One of the intervened properties is located in San Juan Sur, in Corralillo de Cartago; and the other in San Francisco de Grecia, in Alajuela, reported Teletica.
Jonathan Goñi, head of Interpol in Costa Rica, said that, specifically in the residence of Grecia, a significant sum of money was seized: 6,400,000 settlers (around 9,356 dollars) and 20,000 dollars.
“During the investigation and the collection of information, it was established that this criminal group, led by Camargo Clarke, was found carrying out and committing crimes from Costa Rica and organizing its organization in Panama from here,” he revealed.
Goñi said that there are no other people detained as part of a “new investigation” in relation to this criminal organization and its activities in that Central American country.
The raids were part of the investigations carried out by the Intelligence and National Security Division and the Police Information Collection Unit of the OIJ Plans and Operations office, it was reported.
This Monday it was also confirmed that the Criminal Court of the First Judicial Circuit of San José imposed two months of preventive detention on Cholo Chorrillo. These two months is the term established by the Extradition Treaty between Costa Rica and the United States, reported the Judiciary.
Cholo Chorrillo had been a fugitive from the country since last year, when an operation was carried out to capture the members of Baghdad. This is Operation Neptune, carried out in April 2021, and in which 19 members of Baghdad were arrested.
