A group of Argentines and Venezuelans protested on the afternoon of January 22 in rejection of a possible visit by President Nicolás Maduro to Argentina, after being invited to the summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).
“Genocidal Maduro, get out of Argentina!” is one of the chants of the people who gathered in the El Retiro neighborhood, in front of the Sheraton Hotel in Buenos Aires, where the CELAC meetings will take place. Citizens also repudiate the possible presence of Miguel Díaz – Canel, president of Cuba, in that country.

Among those calling for the demonstration were Elisa Trotta Gamus, former ambassador of the interim government in Argentina, and Venezuelan deputy Richard Blanco, who went into exile in Argentina in 2019.
Blanco recalled the students killed in protests since 2014, while assuring that Maduro’s presence in that country seeks to resume his influence in the region to “destabilize the democracies” of the continent.
