The Institute for Women in Migration (Imumi), the Alaíde Foppa Legal Clinic for Refugees, of the Iberoamerican University, and Support for Venezuelan Migrants promoted an amparo lawsuit against the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and the Interior, as well as the National Institute of Migration for the government’s participation in the application of the United States policy Title 42, through which Venezuelan migrants are expelled to Mexican territory.

They argued that the government promised to receive the Venezuelan population expelled from the United States without having issued and published the procedures for their reception, leaving them in legal uncertainty and saturating the load of civil society organizations and shelters.

The organizations reported that the amparo was admitted by the sixteenth district court in administrative matters of Mexico City, and in the lawsuit they claim violations of the human rights of applicants for recognition of refugee status and non-compliance with international law and law applicable to the Mexican State in matters of asylum.

They held that the policy constitutes an externalization of borders by the United States in Mexico.

It should be remembered that the extension of Title 42 to Venezuelan migrants entered into force on October 19, but last week a judge put an end to this measure and agreed to give a deadline, which expires on December 21, for the US authorities to are prepared before the term of application of this policy.
