“I leave that task to the next National Assembly, the task of LGTBI marriage,” said Nicolás Maduro, president of Venezuela.
The government’s promises are still not effective. Equal marriage was one of the issues that encouraged the LGTBIQ+ movements to support the 2017 constituent assembly. They demand that they be listened to.
“We complied with the legal requirements, which was to collect 0.1 percent of the signatures of the electoral population, we complied with it and they have not yet complied, not even telling us if this bill is going to be discussed or not,” said Koddy Campos, LGTBIQ+ community activist.
These organizations also request that the law that punishes homosexual relations within the National Armed Forces be repealed with up to three years in prison.
