They present musicians who will perform at the Havana World Music Festival

The organizing committee of the Havana World Music Festival Starting this Monday, it promotes the lineup of artists that will take the stage in the 2023 edition, scheduled to be held from March 23 to 25.

A wide sample of local talent merges for the occasion with exponents of alternative music from the Netherlands, Norway and Italy, to animate the event that will be hosted by the Cuban Art Factory with the support of the Musical Recordings and Editions Company (Egrem), the Ministry of Culture and the Cuban Institute of Music (ICM), according to a report from the Prensa Latina (PL) agency.

The eighth edition of the event, created and led by the singer Eme Alfonso, will bring together the duo Isla Escarlata, which “is based on rap, but explores genres such as son jarocho, traditional Cuban, Afrobeat and electronic music,” according to the official website. of the festival.

Likewise, there is the KanBu group, which offers a combination of samba, trap, Brazilian funk and popular sounds from the island, adds the media.

The Ashé group will bring the attendees closer to their work related to the study, rescue and safeguarding of the oral heritage of orisha songs and other spiritual entities of African origin.

Azilem will fuse Trap with R&B, AlexZoez & WizzoSanfer will exhibit a proposal marked by jazz, urban, electronic and pop music, while the rapper Telmary will defend the African heritage in music and stimulate reflection on contemporary issues «with touches of reggae, prayers , jazz poet and rock and roll, among other rhythms”, adds the publication.

Other artists that appear in the festival lineup are Sisma Tumbao (Italy), the percussionist and singer Brenda Navarrete (Cuba), Under the Surface (Netherlands) and Ingrid Jasmin (Norway), who “stands out for the electroacoustic fusion of music Norwegian and Flemish folk music, performed with a distinctive melismatic vocal style.”

The meeting will feature presentations by the Cuban group Síntesis, winner of the 2022 Latin Grammy in the Folk Album category for the album Symphonic Ancestors, and who has a prolific career in the Cuban sound scene, recalls PL.

Havana World Music is a festival that had its initial edition in 2013 “thanks to the confluence of a group of friends with experience in cultural management and international cooperation” linked to the world of music.

Its forthcoming edition will have a smaller format than usual, as announced by its organizers, taking into account the tense national economic situation. “The situation warrants doing things modestly, but not stopping doing them,” Alfonso said during the festival presentation.
