The Public Ministry accused the mayor of San Bernardino for the irregular handling of waste.
The agent prosecutor Lisa Martinez Amarilla filed charges against Emigdio Fernando Ruiz Diaz Ojedain his capacity as Mayor of the city of San Bernardino, for the alleged commission of the punishable act of “Illegal Waste Processing” and “Breach of Environmental Impact Mitigation Measures”as author.
According to the background of the case, the present accusation was formulated based on the search carried out jointly with technical officials of the Specialized Directorate for Environmental Crimes of the Public Ministry and Inspectorates of the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development (MADES) in a place that would belong to the Municipality of San Bernardinolocated on Independencia Nacional streets between 14 de Mayo and Colonos Alemanes, Center of the aforementioned city, which would be used as a transitory deposit.
On the site it was found household solid waste storage, product of the collection carried out in said district, departing considerably from the environmental and administrative legal provisions established by the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, taking into account that, according to technical reports, both from MADES and the Public Ministry, these activities were being carried out without the application of environmental criteria that allow the correct implementation of the necessary mechanisms to avoid a possible affectation to the environment in general, considering the amount of accumulated and corroborated waste in the place.
