Santiago. The Astronomical Club of Santiago Inc. launched the project “Scientific education to promote Santiago and the country” with an orientation towards astronomy.
The project is supported by the Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic and was launched during a ceremony held at the UTESA Dominican Culture and Convention Center. Pablo Miguel Ramírez Ogando, general director of the General Directorate of Community Participation of the Ministry of Education and Juan José Mariñez Báez, general director of the Secondary Education Directorate, attended on behalf of the Ministry of Education.
For his part, Agustín González Morel, director of the Cibao Norte Region of the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development, valued the quality of the project that promotes critical thinking, research and interest in science at the school and general level, within the Dominican population, in order that they learn to entertain themselves as a family.
Verónica Ortega, president of the Santiago Astronomical Club explained that this project aims to expand the social impact that the institution has for the country. The approved subsidy is for an amount of 1.2 million pesos.
The project consists of carrying out activities throughout the year that promote interest in science and astronomy, the perfect vehicle to introduce people to areas such as Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, History and Technology and inspire young people to want get involved in these fascinating fields of knowledge.
“The social appropriation of science is what will make society understand that this is the way to have a developed, conscious and critical thinking country. Which is only possible through the popularization of knowledge obtained through research and transmitting scientific rigor with a simple language that can be understood by the general population”, he expressed. The Santiago Astronomical Club was founded on January 13, 1991.
