Last Tuesday, January 25, Congresswoman Norma Yarrow Lumbreras, a member of the Bancada Avanza País, issued a motion in which it is requested that the Minister of Culture Gisela Ortiz be present at the next plenary session of the Congress of the Republic, in order to clarify the technical criteria and endorse the declaration of Cultural Heritage of the Nation to the El Ojo que Llora Memorial approved in Vice Ministerial Resolution 000018-2022-VMPCIC/MC.
“Invite Mrs. Andrea Gisela Ortiz Perea, Minister of Culture, to the next plenary session of the Congress of the Republic, in order to explain the technical and legal criteria that support the declaration of Cultural Heritage of the Nation to the Memorial ‘El Ojo que Llora’”, reads the document.
According to the official letter, this memorial would function as an exaltation of terrorism, since it would not represent the victims and, on the contrary, it would symbolize a grievance against the relatives of terrorism and the Armed Forces.

“Various sectors of the population consider that the Memorial “El Ojo que Llora”; extols terrorism and its declaration as Cultural Heritage of the Nation does not represent the victims of terrorism, but rather is an affront to the families victims of terrorism and the Armed Forces”, reads the document signed by Norma Yarrow.
Finally, the motion bears the signatures of the congressmen Diego Bazán, Jorge Montoya, Diana Gonzáles, José Williams, María Córdova, Juan Burgos, Adriana Tudela and Norma Yarrow.
