The Juntos por el Perú bench presented today a bill to advance the general elections to October 2023, although Parliament already approved in the first vote to call elections for April 2024.
The proposal incorporates a fourth transitory provision in the 1993 Constitution so that the elections are held in the aforementioned month and the presidential term of Dina Boluarte ends in December 2023.
In addition, the modification of the Regulations of Congress is proposed so that the second legislature of the annual period of sessions 2022-2023 begins on February 1 and ends on the 15th of that month; and adds a third legislature that begins on February 16 and ends on June 15 of this year.
These types of constitutional reforms need approval in two legislatures. Currently, it is pending that the Plenary approve in a second vote the advancement of elections to 2024.
