The Cuban Ministry of Culture, with the collaboration of several artists, premiered the video clip of a new collective version of the song “No hacen necesita alas”, by the singer-songwriter and founder of the Nueva Trova Movement, Silvio Rodríguez.
Under the direction of the director Alejandro Pérez, the video clip was filmed in the Los Sitios neighborhood of Havana, at the headquarters of the Cabildo Quisicuaba, a sociocultural project created in 1992 that received the 2022 National Award for Community Culture and which, among other actions, guarantees food to more than 3,000 people, the elderly and low-income or homeless families.
The flutist Orlando Valle “Maraca” made the arrangements and musical production, while Beatriz Corona was behind the choral arrangements.
Well-known voices such as Augusto Blanca, Eduardo Sosa, Annie Garcés, Tony Ávila, Israel Rojas, Marta Campos, Zule Guerra, Annalie López, Kiki Corona, Raúl Torres and Ariel Barreiros interpret this classic by Silvio Rodríguez, composed in 1984 and included in the disc Causes and chances.
Digna Guerra, National Music Award 2015 and director of the National Choir of Cuba, and saxophonist César López participate in a special way.
With a duration of six minutes, during the video the collaborators of the project are observed during the preparation of the food that is distributed by some artists from house to house.
True to his aesthetics, Alejandro Pérez once again resorts to general shots of Havana or from a rooftop where several people share in a great party.
According to Orlando Valle, the recording of “No hacen necesita alas” was made in a very short time and included the work of Sound Engineer Orestes Águila.
“We are happy with the result and I hope you are too,” he says in one of the making of released by the Ministry of Culture.
The Ministry of Culture has also released a new piano version for “No hacen necesita alas” by the prominent pianist and composer Frank Fernández, National Music Award winner in 2005.
“For me it is a great pride that after so many years I can be more than contributing, enjoying a bit of this wonderful song, which is the search for happiness, of being happy with what you have”, declared the pianist Frank Fernandez who did the artistic consultancy for the album Causes and chances published by the Musical Recordings and Editions Company (EGREM) in 1986.
Silvio Rodríguez is one of the most versioned composers inside and outside Cuba.
