The Second Chamber of the Court of Appeal of Santo Domingo Este has postponed the hearing of the appeal to the sentence that sentenced him to two years of suspended prison. Wilkin García Pegueroalias “Butter“.
The appeal was presented by the Public Ministry and the lawyers of the people who accuse “Butter” of scamming them.
The postponement was set for November 28 because the summons to all parties involved has not been completed.
In addition, the lead judge in the case, Eduardo Velázquez, was not present at the hearing.
Both the Public Ministry and the plaintiffs’ lawyers requested the extension, while the person representing Peguero, Moisés Fontanilla, expressed his dissatisfaction with the decision.
According to Fontanilla, this postponement is a strategy to delay the process and prevent his client from serving his sentence on November 30.
Fontanilla pointed out that this delay responds to “procedural revenge” and criticized the Dominican judicial system for allocating a large part of its budget to preventive detention and postponements, without resolving cases efficiently.
