They plant mass chestnut plants in the country

In the last five years, agricultural producers have planted more than 10 million of seedlings dough chestnut in the Dominican Republica versatile fruit with nutritional properties that farmers are seeking to rescue from oblivion and promote so that there is greater consumption in Dominican homes.

The variety of foods and derivatives that can be prepared from this fruit, its resistance to pests and the plant longevity -which can live up to 300 years- make it a crop that promises profitability, said yesterday the president of the Dominican Agribusiness Board (JAD), Osmar Benitez.

“We export dough chestnuttostones dough chestnutsto Puerto Rico. Official exports are currently around close to a million dollars per year,” said the executive in a press conference in which he announced the celebration of the II Congress and Festival of the Chestnut Dough 2025.

He reiterated that the country is a “budding producer“, so the commercial production of this fruit is still being organized. However, he highlighted that there are already 13 provinces where this sector is taking place, and recalled that this is a plant that people usually have “in the patio of your house“.

Until now, they know each other four commercial properties of production of dough chestnut at the national level, including that of a processing company that buys “up a million pesos per week” of this product to export it to the international market.

Next congress

The JAD will celebrate November 13 to 14 he II Congress and Festival of the Chestnut Dougha meeting that aims to learn about the importance of cultivation, planting techniques, harvest management and derivative products of this area.

The Congress also contemplates releasing a recipe bookwhich contains more than 30 dishes that can be made from this food.
