This Wednesday, January 11, the first pacemaker placement surgery was performed successfully and without complications, at the Dr. Luis “Chicho” Fábrega Hospital in Veraguense. This procedure consists of implanting a small battery-operated device under the skin, that generates information to control the heartbeat, this achievement will provide timely care and save time and money in transportation to Panama City and most importantly, save lives.
This surgery was performed by Ubaldo Hernández, an interventional cardiologist at the Dr. Luis “Chicho” Fábrega Hospital, who explained that the procedure was performed on a 78-year-old female patient, who presented complete AV block and who at another time had to be transferred to the Santo Tomás Hospital, to wait for his surgery; However, today the surgery was performed in the province, without any type of complications, successfully and quickly, which opens an opportunity for residents of the central provinces and saves lives.
The cardiology service of the Dr. Luis “Chicho” Fábrega hospital, with the support of the Hospital and Regional management, have been working on a project that allows the Hospital to be the reference facility in Cardiology in the interior of the country, which allows not only Serving Veragüenses if not also people from the provinces of Herrera, Los Santos, Coclé, Chiriquí, Bocas del Toro and the Ngäbe-Bugle region, it is planned in the future to create a Hemodynamics Unit to perform cardiac catheterization surgeries among others.
For his part, Abrahim Mollick, head of the cardiology service of this hospital, indicated with satisfaction that today is a gratifying day, it is a before and after for the health of the province and the country, which is celebrated by the hospital team and the population, which without Without a doubt, it will save many lives, he also stressed that insured and uninsured patients are treated in this hospital, not only from Veraguas but also from other provinces, who have “Chicho” as a reference, he thanked the regional, hospital authorities and the Minister of Health for all the support received to take this great step for the benefit of the population, we will continue working to achieve the implementation of the goal project with the support of all to help the health of the residents of the area.
