They pay tribute to Orlando Figuera six years after his murder

This Saturday authorities of the national Government and Popular Power pay posthumous tribute in the Plaza Parque Carabobo, in front of the Public Ministry, in Caracas, to Orlando Figuera six years after his murder during the so-called Guarimbas, violence unleashed by the Venezuelan right in the streets of Caracas during 2017.

Figuera, a young Venezuelan, was burned alive during the guarimbas in 2017, and represents one of the thousands of victims of terrorist acts staged between April and June 2017.

It should be remembered that on that date a wave of violence broke out in the streets of Caracas during which more than a hundred people died, victims of these terrorist acts provoked by followers of opposition political parties.

Thousands of cases were reported victims of lynching, political persecution, in view of this situation, Venezuela approved a law against hate and for political coexistence, in which the people are urged not to engage in this type of act again.

Forbidden to forget

Nahum Fernández, head of Government of the Capital District and member of the National Directorate of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), called on the Venezuelan people to never forget this type of violence so that they never happen again.

“This plan must be remembered every day, to guarantee that the hopelessness of the people does not return, since they wanted to end the joy of the Venezuelan people,” he said.

President Maduro called for peace

In his speech, Fernández highlighted the work of the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, who took the lead in this battle and called for peace in the country with the Constituent Assembly.

“He established dynamics to be able to overcome each of the attacks against the people and that was when he called the Constituent Assembly. If we had not done this, how many deaths would we currently count, ”he added.

Dialogue versus violence

Nahum Fernández explained that what he experienced on that date were very violent acts, “patrons who are not from the country.”

Despite this, the national government has always been calling for dialogue, while the Venezuelan right is always calling for violence.

He noted that in this sense, there is no good or bad violence, it is always bad and seeing Figuera’s mother on this day, and remembering her pain of losing her son to some mercenaries hired by the right, “this calls us to continue on the path of peace.”

They tried, affirmed Fernández, to intimidate the Chavista people, establishing zones where they could not pass, “it was a very raw time of violence that we had never seen in the country.”

Six years after his murder, we ask for justice and repudiate all kinds of violence, Fernández said.

We ask for justice

“Today we are talking about Orlando Figuera, but there were thousands of deaths, today in times of peace we continue under the scheme of the blockade, sanctions and economic violence,” he emphasized.

He stressed that “everything they have done is to put an end to the peace and tranquility of the people, for this reason today here in front of the Prosecutor’s Office we request the extradition of the subjects involved in these events.”

This Saturday, in the tribute to Orlando Figuera and the hundreds of victims of the so-called guarimbas of 2017, representatives of the PSUV, authorities of the national government and the people in general who reject these acts of violence participate.
