They pay tribute to 81 fallen members of the Police

The Metropolitan Archbishop of Santo Domingo, Monsignor Francisco Ozoria, said that the National Police It can only be reformed if the institution itself wants and assumes the transformations that society expects.

“No matter how many desires there are for changes from the president, from civil society and from the institutions, yes the same National Police this is not proposed and he does not assume it as his task, there will be no transformation,” warned Ozoria.

When presiding over a Eucharist in homage to the 81 agents who, according to the Ministry of Interior and Police have fallen in the last 10 years in the line of duty, the religious urged the members of the institution to exercise their functions honestly and adhered to the rules. He indicated that if the Police contributes to transform itself as it has been proposed, the most benefited will be society.

On his side, he Minister of the Interior and Police, Jesús Vásquezsaid that the relatives of the police officers who have died in the line of duty will receive decent pensions and the support they require.

“Today we are honoring those men who gave their lives in pursuit of the fulfillment of their duty and the safety of all citizens, defending with gallantry and determination the role in which they believed and for which they were trained,” said Jesús Vásquez.

The official recognized that the members of the National Police to reduce the risks to which they are exposed in the performance of their duties.

While the Director of the National Police, Major General Eduardo Alberto Thensaid that the men and women who have perished in the line of duty will always be considered members of the institution.

At the mass, which was attended by police and military officers and relatives of the fallen, 10 of the agents were posthumously honored.

The officers honored were: General Julián Suárez Cordero, killed in April 2013 in the National District; Lieutenant Colonel Ramón de Jesús Figueroa, killed in May 2016 in Santo Domingo; Major Santo Taveras Ureña, who died in April 2016 in Valverde; the capital Rigoberto Rosario Felipe, who died in April 2021 in Duarte province and first lieutenant Juan Mercedes Vásquez, who died in December 2019.

Other honorees: Second Lieutenant Manuel Matos Batista, killed in October 2012 in the National District; second lieutenant Dany Vásquez Javier, killed in September 2018 in Monte Plata; Sergeant Nilo Pérez Jáquez, who died in May 2015 in Santo Domingo.

Also, Corporal Rigoberto Rosario de la Cruz, who died in May 2013, and Private Yamel Medina, who died in September 2016 in San Cristóbal.
