They paid for a gas work 15 years ago in a town in Cordoba and are still offline

The use of public services grew 6.2% year-on-year

Residents of the Cordoban town of Mendiolaza, in the Sierras Chicas and some 20 kilometers from the capital, maintain a persistent claim for a work to connect the natural gas network that they paid for 15 years ago, and that was never carried out.

For this reason, they not only ask the mayor Daniel Salibi, who has been in office for 23 years, to finally carry out the work, but they also want explanations to know the destination of the funds contributed at that time.

“The other day the mayor’s response was that since he did not pay the minimum percentage of neighbors, then nothing could be done, but they do not tell us what happened to that fortune either. Because it was a significant amount,” complained Alejandra Conti, a resident of the area. , in dialogue with Télam.

The same woman was the one who started a collection of signatures to demand compliance with the work, a means by which 938 adhesions have already been reached.

“In addition, not having natural gas, with the damage that this implies, we also do not have sewers, pavement, pruning collection or an essential delay pond to prevent flooding in summer,” indicates the letter from the neighbors.

Therefore, “we demand that the gas work be carried out for the residents of the Mendiolaza Residential Center neighborhood as a way to start reversing the abandonment in which the municipal management has submerged this sector of the town for 20 years”, follow.

For her part, Councilor Adela Arning argued that “the lack of transparency in (municipal) management makes people very tired.”

Salibi is a mayor of the Radical Civic Union who is serving his sixth term in an uninterrupted manner, and in response to the demand to know the destination of those funds contributed 15 years ago, he responded to the neighbors, according to Arning, “that this money was used to make pressure pumps, but that doesn’t matter to the neighbors who paid to have service at home”.

He also said that each neighborhood had to pay a minimum of 30 percent to start it and that the problem “was that it never reached 30 percent because there were neighbors who did not agree with the work and others who did not want to pay it.”

However, both Arning and Conti certify that “a higher percentage of neighbors made the payment at the time, although it cannot be verified due to lack of records.”

“I made a request for a report to know what the criteria is to know what parameters they use, the mayor makes announcements every year,” claimed the municipal official.
