Different social organizations announced the holding of a Christmas Eve dinner in front of the National Congress with homeless people and homeless families, under the slogan “No family without Christmas” and in demand of the implementation of the National Law for People in Street Situationsanctioned a year ago by the lower house.

“Christmas Eve in Congress with families living on the streets and homeless families is an activity that we have been carrying out in recent years. This year we are going to start concentrating on Saturday from 7 pm”, Spokesmen for the meeting advanced to Télam.

“As every year, this December 24, social organizations will carry out the Christmas Eve dinner together with homeless people and homeless families in the Plaza Congreso under the slogan ‘No family without Christmas'”, explained the convening organizations through a joint statement.

The organizers also highlighted that “the call for volunteers and requests for donations are open” for the Christmas meeting.

“We know that these are very important dates with a strong symbolic charge for many, which is why we ask you to help us make a great Christmas table possible for the last of the last”, they expressed in a press release where they opened the call for volunteers and they asked for donations.

“Those who want to help for the meeting -they remarked- as volunteers for the organization of the day on December 24, may sign up in shifts from noon to night through the form:

Regarding donations, Toys, Christmas food, non-alcoholic beverages, clothing and personal hygiene items are mainly requested, which can be approached from Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Pedro Echagüe 1265 in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Constitución, or make a deposit/bank transfer: Entity: Amanecer Civil Association / Account number: 046-774/2 / CBU: 0290046900000000077428.

These social organizations have been carrying out sustained work with homeless people for several years with different initiatives such as food assistance (delivery of food); first listening and psychological attention; advice on social security and access to documentation; coordination of public bodies (Justice, Social Development, Health); use of showers, toilets and laundry.

The project is promoted by the organization Proyecto 7.

On December 10, 2021, they achieved the sanction of a National Law that seeks to restore the “violated human rights of this population” through the creation of a national network of social integration centers, an annual survey and the creation of a telephone and mobile service system.

“One year after its sanction, -they argued- the Ministry of Social Development of the Nation has not yet regulated it and that will be one of the main claims of Christmas Eve in Congress.”
