Martín Camacho, defense lawyer for the governor of Santa Cruz Luis Fernando Camacho, welcomed the determination of the court of constitutional guarantees that orders a sentencing judge to set, as soon as possible, a date and time for the appeal hearing of precautionary measures weighing on the defendant.
“Actually, an action for freedom was raised to demand, through the constitutional means, that they set an appeal hearing for us. What happens is that yesterday (Thursday) (the appeal hearing) was suspended. by a formalism that nobody claimed. And that anyway it did not cause any damage to Luis Fernando“, the lawyer clarified.
Precisely for this reason, “we have presented an action for freedom in La Paz, of a translational nature, for a constitutional judge to order the member to set up the hearing immediately“, he highlighted.
The lawyer explains that this action represents an alternative route to the preventive detention that weighs on Camacho. “Which unrestricted freedom is sought (for Governor Luis Fernando Camacho), but in any case, a transfer to Santa Cruz can be made, it would be a triumph”he assured.
The governor of Santa Cruz has been in pretrial detention in the Chonchocoro prison since December 30, after being apprehended in Santa Cruz and placed under custody in the city of La Paz.
The first authority of the department has been accused of terrorism in the Coup I case.
