José Cossio, one of the most wanted by the Panamanian authorities, was the subject of a hearing of guarantees, in which a personal precautionary measure of provisional detention was filed, for the possible commission of crimes against the administration of justice in the modality of evasion, and against public faith in the form of forgery of documents.
During the process, the Prosecutor’s Office expressed that Cossio represents a risk of flight danger and for the community, for having valid convictions.
It is worth mentioning that Cossio was previously detained in the Punta Coco prison, after having escaped from La Joya, but was released through an official letter made by the Judicial Branch and later captured by the National Police.
Cossio’s defense attorney, Abdiel Enrique Sánchez, filed an appeal against the precautionary measure imposed by the judge, which will be evaluated in a new hearing on October 20, at 2:00 pm, in the Superior Court of Appeals.
This case began on September 3, 2021, when the former presiding magistrate of the Supreme Court of Justice, Luis Ramón Fábrega, and the presiding magistrate of the Criminal Chamber, María Eugenia López Arias, filed a criminal complaint to investigate the alleged irregularities. Regarding the release of José Cossío, who was detained in the Costa del Este area, detailed the judicial authorities.
