They order house arrest of Hugo Javier

After a hearing to impose measures, Judge María Elena Cañete ordered the house arrest of Hugo Javier González, governor of Central (ANR Honor Colorado). The decision was made in the Court of San Lorenzo.

In this way, González will have to leave his position and Mario Aguilera will take over in his place, as president of the Municipal Board. The liberal mayor, at the time, had saved the governor with his vote from a request for intervention.

DECISION
The magistrate resolved four points on the case of Hugo Javier González; First, house arrest under police control, then the prohibition to leave the country, the prohibition to communicate with the other co-defendants and finally, the seizure of a farm located in Itauguá, valued at G. 1,500 million as collateral. , considering that González is accused of embezzling G. 5,105 million. This sum received the governorate during 2020 in order to mitigate the impact of the pandemic.

CONTEXT
In November, Rodrigo Estigarribia, prosecutor of the Specialized Unit for Economic Crimes of the Prosecutor’s Office, charged González and 14 other people with the alleged embezzlement of G. 5,105 million that the government should allocate to mitigate the pandemic.

However, in December, he was “armored” in the Chamber of Deputies when his request for interpellation was analyzed.

Regardless of the political issue, the investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office continued to advance until the hearing for the imposition of measures held on Tuesday.

LARROZA
Derlis Larroza, a departmental councilor for the PLRA, said that surely next week they will be notified by the Departmental Board about Judge Cañete’s resolution.

“For us it is a half achievement. We have been denouncing corruption for a long time. Due to the lack of provision of snacks or the waste of money in the pandemic in the lack of action to mitigate the effects of the pandemic. We denounced the Comptroller’s Office who agreed with us. The SET speaks that invoices were cloned to account for fiscal year 2020, ”he commented.

Larroza highlighted that legislators for signs of corruption were expelled for less reason than Hugo Javier.

“For me it should be somewhere else. We believe that the Chairman of the Board should take over. If the governor is absent for more than three days, we will already consider that it will be definitive. We already talked about acephaly, about a lack of institutionality. Being in the governorship, he did little or nothing, which we can expect now that he is in prison”, he pointed out.

WITHOUT MAJORITY
The councilman finally stressed that González no longer has a majority in the Departmental Board. Taking into account that, in the last rendering of accounts, 16 of the 21 councilors voted for the rejection.

“The governor’s lawyer talks about Hugo Javier still being able to carry out his functions, I don’t know which governor will be able to calmly carry out his functions if he cannot talk to his officials and cannot approach the governor’s office. I think it’s a shame, “he concluded.
