Justice put another padlock on the cell of the governor of Santa Cruz, Luis Fernando Camacho. Yesterday he ordered that he serve another 60 days of preventive detention in the Chonchocoro prison, where he has already been confined since December 30, this time for the ‘Decretazo’ case.
Despite his legal status as a pretrial detainee, the judge accepted the procedural risks posed by the Prosecutor’s Office, “Flight risk and obstruction of justice”, to justify Camacho’s new determination. It happened after a hearing that lasted for more than 10 hours. Camacho connected with the judicial hearing through a digital application from Chonchocoro, while the judges and lawyers for the case were at the Santa Cruz Courthouse.
The attorney for the prosecution, Juan José Quiroz, said that the judge’s decision was going to be appealed because they had raised a 180-day detention. In any case, if the judge had ruled with another precautionary measure, the imprisonment against Camacho would not have been lifted because the charges against him were recently expanded in the ‘Coup I’ case that led to his imprisonment after the police operation on December 28 .
In the first moment, the governor was charged with “terrorism” for having promoted the protests that led to the resignation of Evo Morales in 2019.
Quiroz pointed out that in the ‘Decretazo’ case, Camacho was accused of resolutions contrary to the Constitution and the laws for the approval of Departmental Decree 373 of 2022. The Prosecutor’s Office pointed out that these crimes were consummated because Camacho did not designate the lieutenant governor when he made a trip to Brazil on March 9, 2022. This decision led to a criminal action to which the Ministry of Justice joined.
Camacho said that it was decided to leave the Secretary of Institutional Coordination Miguel Ángel Navarro as substitute governor, to have the normal development in the Governor’s Office.
“The decree did not enter into force because it was instructed that it would notbut that situation was uploaded to the Gazette and it should not have gone,” Camacho said on that occasion.
On Tuesday, the first cruceña authority had lost another legal action, when the courts denied him an action in favor of his health, his lawyer, Martín Camacho, recalled yesterday. In an interview with ‘Influential’ from EL DEBER Radio, the lawyer stated that RPenitentiary regime is “playing” with the health of the Santa Cruz authority.
He said, was placed on a rigorous diet that was not designed or reviewed by a nutritionist, but by Mariana García, National Director of Health of the Penitentiary Regime.
“There are no specialists in the Penitentiary Regime, that should be clear. A rigid diet has been imposed on her that is not analyzed by a nutritionist, but by Mariana García with the aim of reducing her blood pressure, but the only thing he has achieved is a loss of weight and muscle mass, which is much more worrisome than the pressure and, even so, the pressure does not diminish”, pointed out the lawyer.
Camacho has Churg-Strauss syndrome, which requires immunoglobulin to be administered every 21 days, maximum.
