The president Luis Abinader inaugurated yesterday overpass of Prolongación 27 de Febrero avenue with Isabel Aguiar, a work that is expected to benefit more than 300,000 people in one of the main points of road conflict of Greater Santo Domingo. The investment was 51 million dollars.

This is a project conceived in 2016 by the then Minister of Public works, Gonzalo Castillowhich initially contemplated two tunnels from east to west and from west to east on both sides of the Plaza de la Bandera and a overpass in Isabel Aguiar, but it was modified, in this Government, by the last administration of Deligne Ascención. Now it will only be built a tunnel.

Abinader indicated that, along with the work on the kilometro 9, the expansion of the Republic of Colombia and the termination of the Ecological avenuewhich will connect with the port of Caucedo and will be inaugurated on November 15, seeks to decongest Greater Santo Domingo.

The Minister of Public Works, Eduardo Estrella, reported that 18 months after starting work at the intersection known as Pintura, the road solution is a reality.
He highlighted the supervision of the project and the work of the oversight committee, which has guaranteed transparency in the use of funds from the State contract with the company Aeropuertos Siglo XXI (Aerodom). “President, with your instructions, all location payments with Aerodom funds are up to date and there is not a day late. It is being used religiously,” Estrella stated.
The project was carried out with an investment of 51 million dollars from Aerodom funds, but the set of works, which includes the Gregorio Luperón Avenue tunnel, exceeds 80 million dollars. The works will allow greater fluidity in traffic both on Isabel Aguiar Avenue and on the 27 de Febrero Prolongación. The overpass has five express lanes: three in a west-east direction and two in an east-west direction, in addition to three lanes on both sides of the viaduct.
Another complementary work is the 1.2 meter tunnel that is being built from north to south along Gregorio Luperón Avenue, which, according to Eduardo Estrella, will be operational in the second quarter of next year.
He also reported that they are in the process of building a system that will channel the waters of Luperón Avenue, which floods every time it rains.
