They open a new air route between Cuba and Venezuela favorable to tourism

From there it will depart on May 3 for Varadero to transfer the participants in the International Tourism Fair, FitCuba 2022, the manager of GTN, Luis Montalván, explained to the media.

The route will have two weekly frequencies, Porlamar-Havana-Porlamar and Porlamar-Santiago de Cuba-Porlamar, the businessman quoted by the media expanded.

In recent years, the wholesale tour operator 1014 GTN Inversiones has worked together with Cubatur and Venetur, belonging to the ministries of Tourism of Cuba and Venezuela, respectively, to encourage the exchange of visitors between the two countries, said Montalván quoted by PL.

The general director of GTN, Humberto Acuña, assured that betting on a route that links the two main cities of Cuba with the main tourist enclave of Venezuela is, in addition to a successful adventure, a way to bring two brother towns closer together, which are also important destinations and benchmarks for world tourism, the publication specifies.

On this occasion, the project focuses on promoting multi-destination, family travel and an experience that is developed strongly in the Caribbean environment, business tourism and shopping.

Margarita Island, with a long history as a destination of excellence, also adds attractions for shopping tourism, with a prosperous economy and its status as a free port, which exempts it from paying taxes, recalls PL.

Cuban government highlights “a trend towards gradual recovery” of tourism

On November 15, 2021, Cuba opened its borders to tourism, after almost two years of paralyzed operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since the Government made that decision, several international airlines have gradually resumed the flight frequencies they maintained before the pandemic, and others have increased their offers or established new itineraries.

This year, Cuba expects to receive 2.5 million international visitors, 1,926,000 more than those counted in the previous one, according to the projections of the Ministry of Tourism (Mintur).
