Joaquin Guzman Lopez, The Güerois one of the sons that Joaquin El Chapo Guzmán Loera had with his second wife, Griselda López.
The US Department of Justice has identified Guzmán López as one of the ringleaders of The Chapitosas Guzmán Loera’s sons are known, who make up a faction of the Sinaloa cartel in which Iván and Alfredo Guzmán Salazar also participate.
This criminal group is considered the most powerful part of the Sinaloa cartel after the arrest and extradition to the United States of El Chapo Guzman.
For the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service, both Joaquín and Ovidio Guzmán López entered into their father’s lucrative business after the murder of their brother Edgar in May 2008 in Culiacán, Sinaloa.
Even the State Department’s Narcotics Rewards Program noted at the time that both brothers inherited much of the drug profits and began investing large amounts of money in the purchase of marijuana in Mexico and cocaine in Colombia.
Investigations by U.S. authorities also indicate that both Joaquín and Ovidio coordinated the purchase and trafficking of ephedrine from Argentina to Mexico.
In January 2023, the United States Department of State offered a $5 million reward for information leading to the apprehension and/or conviction of Joaquín Guzmán López and another $5 million for Ovidio Guzmán López, currently imprisoned in that country.
The United States is still offering a reward of up to $10 million for information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of Iván Archivaldo and Jesús Alfredo Guzmán Salazar.
